TERRI’S TIP JULY 2022

KITCHEN DECLUTTERING
AND ORGANIZING

Kitchens are the hub of most households so naturally the team at The Chicago Organizer get called to declutter and organize kitchens of all sizes all over the Chicagoland area.

We notice people put items away in cabinets and cupboards soon after they move in and don’t take the time to relocate items even though they are continually frustrated with the over crowdedness and lack of functionality.

Another scenario is when people move in with each other (spouses, partners, roommates) and there are duplicates that are co-existing in already packed cabinets.

And busy working professionals and older people — really everybody! — have expired food and spices. People stock up, get enthusiastic about cooking and/or baking, buy overstock when items are on sale — and then years go by and the items don’t get used. Then it’s time to throw items away. Some canned goods definitely can last a few years past their expiration date but 10 years over might not be safe to eat. Spices definitely lose their freshness and therefore their taste much sooner than people believe.

The team at The Chicago Organizer literally pulls everything out of your cabinets and cupboards and pantry — category by category — to review what’s in there and put only the essential items back in places THAT MAKE SENSE to help your flow and functionality in the kitchen. A big part of this is implementing basic kitchen organizing items easily found at stores and online. We love turntables for oils, spices, vitamins and other meds. Drawer dividers separate utensils like your spatulas, wooden spoons, tongs. Cabinets shelves take advantage of the wasted vertical height if shelves can’t be moved. Pantry bins contain like items of foods like baking ingredients, snacks for adults separated from snacks for kids, rice and pasta and grains — especially when you have multiple half-used packages that benefit from containment vs. getting messy all over the pantry shelves.

Even though we’re not a cleaning service, we’ll always wipe out the shelves before putting items back. Or encourage you to do so while we’re working in another area of the kitchen.

Please call about our kitchen decluttering and organizing service! It might very well be a “game changer” as a recent client explained!
