TERRI’S TIP DECEMBER 2023

Organizing in December on cold winter days

Start early. The best way to avoid holiday stress is to start organizing early. This will give you plenty of time to declutter, pack away seasonal items, and get your home ready for the holidays.

Set a budget. The holidays can be expensive, so it’s important to set a budget for your decorations, gifts, and food. This will help you stay on track and avoid overspending.

Be ruthless with decluttering. Before you start decorating for Christmas or Hanukkah or Kwanza, be sure to remove Thanksgiving and other décor unrelated to the upcoming holidays. Get rid of any decorations that you don't love or use anymore. This will make your home look more festive and inviting.

Label everything. When you pack away your decorations, be sure to label everything clearly. This will make it easy to find what you need next year.

Use clear storage containers. Clear storage containers make it easy to see what’s inside, so you can easily find what you need.

Take pictures of your decorations. If you have a lot of decorations, it can be helpful to take pictures of them before you pack them away. This will help you remember what you have and how to put it all together next year.

Get creative with your storage. There are many creative ways to store your holiday decorations. You can use old suitcases, trunks, or even cardboard boxes. Don’t forget about the kitchen. The kitchen is often overlooked when it comes to holiday organizing. But there are a few things you can do to keep your kitchen organized during the holidays. First, set up a designated area for wrapping gifts. Second, create a grocery list and make sure you have everything you need on hand. Third, designate a space for storing leftovers and have the proper storage containers. Many are decluttering out old plastic Tupperware and using glass storage.

Enjoy the process. Organizing for the holidays can be a lot of work, but it can also be a lot of fun. So relax, take your time, and enjoy the process.

Here are some additional tips that are specific to Christmas:

Take care of your Christmas tree. Make sure to water your Christmas tree regularly and keep it away from heat sources. This will help it last longer.

Dispose of your Christmas tree properly. When it’s time to take down your Christmas tree, be sure to dispose of it properly.

Don’t forget about the cards. After Christmas, be sure to take care of your Christmas cards. You can either recycle them or donate them to a local nursing home or hospital.

Clean up after the holidays. After the holidays, take some time to clean up your home. This will help you start the new year off on the right foot.

I hope these tips help you have a more organized and stress-free holiday season!
